How to Prepare for Your Mobile Notary Appointment

Scheduling a mobile notary is easy — but a little preparation goes a long way toward making your appointment smooth and stress-free. Here is what every Bay Area resident should know before their notary arrives.

1. Do Not Sign Your Documents Yet

This is the most important rule: never sign your documents before the notary arrives. California law requires the notary to witness your signature or acknowledge that the signature on the document is genuinely yours. If you sign beforehand, many document types cannot be notarized and you will need a new copy.

2. Have Your ID Ready

California notaries are required by law to verify your identity. Acceptable forms of ID include:

• California Driver License or ID Card
• U.S. Passport or Passport Card
• Military ID Card
• Foreign passport with valid U.S. visa
• Certain other government-issued photo IDs

Your ID must be current (not expired). A recently expired ID may not be accepted.

3. Ensure All Signers Are Present

If your document requires multiple signatures — such as both spouses on a real estate deed, or all trustees on a trust amendment — all signers must be present at the same time unless separate appointments are arranged. Let us know when scheduling if multiple signers are involved.

4. Review the Document in Advance

Our notaries cannot advise you on what to sign or explain the legal meaning of your documents — that is the role of your attorney or financial advisor. Review the document before we arrive so you understand what you are agreeing to. If you have questions about the content, resolve them with the appropriate professional first.

5. Prepare a Flat, Well-Lit Signing Surface

Set up a table or desk with good lighting. Loan signing packages can be 100+ pages and require space to lay out documents.

6. Confirm Your Payment Method
