What Is a Loan Signing Appointment?

A loan signing appointment is where a certified loan signing agent (a specialized notary) comes to your home or office to guide you through the signing of your refinance documents. The appointment is arranged by your escrow or title company, typically 1–3 days before your expected funding date.

Who Pays for the Notary?

In most Bay Area refinances, the loan signing fee is included in your closing costs and paid by the escrow company — not directly out of your pocket at the signing. However, it will appear on your Closing Disclosure.

How Long Does It Take?

A typical refinance signing takes 45–75 minutes. Cash-out refinances with larger loan packages may take slightly longer. Have the time blocked off and avoid scheduling anything immediately after.
